WHERE IS THUN?Thun is a short distance south east of Bern. Bern is the air travel gateway to Thun. The Bern airport (symbol "BRN") is readily accessible from several major European cities including Amsterdam, Brussels, Florence, London, Munich, Paris and Vienna. For instance I can fly from Boston to Munich via Lufthanser with a one-hour layover before flying into Bern. Or I can fly from Boston to Amsterdam via Northwest/KLM with a brief layover before flying onto Bern. From the Bern airport the taxi ride takes about 20-30 minutes. The airport is small and friendly. Most of the planes that fly in from the gateway cities mentioned above are 30-50 seaters. You fly in low over the mountains and farms and plop down onto the runway. It takes about 20 minutes to get through customs and immigration, collect your luggage and be on your way. The check-in process for outbound flights is just as easy. No two to three hour big-city pre-boarding hassles. I like it. Thun is easily reached via autobahn. There are also bus and rail connections from Bern to Thun. Thun sits on the west end of the Thuner See ("see" is another word for lake). Thun has a beautiful old city center with a river running through it. To the east is the Brienzer See. In between the two sees sits the tourist Mecca of Interlaken. Nearby are the famous Yosemite like waterfalls of Lauterbrunnen and the village of Grindelwald at the foot of the Eiger (the mountain on which Clint Eastwood dallied in the "Eiger Sanction"). For those of you who enjoy train travel and prefer to fly into other Swiss cities there are rail connections from both the Geneva and Zurich airports to Bern and then onto Thun. If you rent your motorcycle through the dealer that I use (as opposed to obtaining a bike on your own) roundtrip transportation to Thun from the Bern airport will be included at no charge to tour participants.Click Here to send email to request information. ©2008-2009 Alps Tours by Moto-Charlie - all rights reserved About Alps Tours by Moto-Charlie
